Dr. Denise Wooten for Texas State House District 63 on Voting Accessibility

Democracy only works if people can actually participate in it. No one should have to fight harder to vote than they do to live their lives.

  • Voting in person and by mail should be easy. Extremist politicians want to make voting difficult to try to exclude people who wouldn't vote for them.

  • The Republican platform calls for repealing the Voting Rights Act and would require a two thirds supermajority (rather than a simple majority) to pass constitutional amendments.

  • The Democratic platform supports eliminating barriers to voting, automatic and same day registration, and a non partisan, citizen led redistricting commission.

I will fight to make voting more accessible to strengthen our democracy. As your State Representative, I will:

  • Oppose further restrictions on mail and in person voting

  • Support automatic and same day voter registration

  • Oppose gerrymandering that lets politicians pick their voters instead of the other way around

Democracy only works when every eligible voter can actually participate — and right now, Texas makes that harder than it needs to be. As your representative in Austin, I would fight for voting reforms that put voters first, not politicians. Automatic voter registration: When an eligible Texan interacts with a state agency — like getting or renewing a driver's license — they should be automatically added to the voter rolls unless they choose to opt out. This removes an unnecessary barrier without taking away anyone's choice. Same-day registration: Life is busy. If an eligible voter shows up at the polls on Election Day without being registered, they should be able to register and cast their ballot that day. Same-day registration is common in other states and consistently increases participation without increasing fraud. Expanded mail voting: Voting by mail gives working parents, people with disabilities, and shift workers a real option when showing up in person on a Tuesday isn't possible. I oppose efforts to restrict this access. Fair redistricting: Politicians should not be able to draw their own district maps. I support replacing the current partisan redistricting process with a nonpartisan, citizen-led redistricting commission — so that voters choose their representatives, not the other way around. Democracy isn't just about casting a ballot. It's about knowing that ballot was counted fairly, in a district drawn honestly. That's the Texas I'm fighting for.
