Dr. Denise Wooten for Texas State House District 63 on Hope as a Verb
Video Transcript
Question: Dr. Wooten, you mentioned something about hope as a verb. What can I do to make the world a better place, and how can my actions contribute to getting rid of this voter apathy?
Denise Wooten: When I say, as a psychologist, that hope is a verb, I'm not just talking about the feeling. I'm talking about what can people actually do. Because the best antidote to apathy is to have an action that you believe will be helpful.
So first of all, we've got to elect good people. I would classify myself as one of those. And we need to get people into HD 63 and other districts who will really work for the common good of most of the people in Texas, not just the wealthy. So you could contribute to a campaign like that.
You could block walk. With youthful energy and enthusiasm, you are able to accomplish a lot more than somebody maybe older would be able to do in terms of physically running around neighborhoods and apartment complexes. Other folks do postcards. They really believe in addressing those and getting those out as another way of reaching voters. Others attend events or help try to arrange events. And yet others are able to donate.
You, and your mom, and my friend Ron here [name as heard], you guys are donating your time to try to help me get my word out to people through social media. So this is a way you are contributing directly to trying to get a person like me elected to HD 63 who is going to pass good legislation.
So there may be other things we can think of more specifically for you to do, but action is key.
